FIPSE Topics

Immediately after the completion of a FIPSE conference, the Trustees finalize their preliminary discussions about which three topics will be selected for the next meeting two years later.  Along with the discussion of topics, of great importance is the selection of the colleague who will be the organizer of the corresponding day-long session.  In many cases, this task is taken up by one of the Trustees.  Increasingly, a prominent colleague outside the Trustee committee is invited to undertake the task. Besides the selection of the two invited speakers, each session organizer orchestrates the writing and publication of the white paper, which summarizes what was discussed in such a session.

Starting with FIPSE-5, a call of short presentations is issued, and prospective conference participants propose a brief presentation of their open problem in the research area under discussion in one of the three days of the conference. Of these submissions, a select number is added to the program to complement the ideas presented by the two invited presentations each day.
