Future Innovation in Process System Engineering (FIPSE) aims at providing a framework for researchers to come together and discuss selected topics in some depth, reflect on the accomplishments and postulate future developments. The emphasis will therefore be on discussions rather than presentations and the future rather than the present and the past.
In each of the three daily sessions, the first half of the morning includes two 45-min plenary presentations. Each presentation defines a few important open research problems that ought to be addressed by the community in the next 5-10 years. The second half entails two parts: (i) four 14-min presentations of open problems, and (ii) extended discussions involving all participants and presenters. Two additional short presentations might be given at the beginning of the afternoon before the afternoon discussion. Each short presentation is allowed only 7 slides. The afternoon discussions take place first in groups and the resulting definitions of open research challenges are shared with all participants and debated.
The first FIPSE took place in 2012, and it was followed while three more in 2014, 2016, and 2018. The one planned for June 2020 has been postponed for June 2021, due to the Convid-19 epidemic. More information about this unique conference series can be found here.
